One of the most valuable tools in our fleet is the SideLoader trailer. While traditionally used for import/export container movements, our team has expanded its use into many other applications with great success.
What is a SideLoader?
A SideLoader is a semi-trailer fitted with hydraulic cranes at each end, capable of lifting, transporting, and unloading containers up to 40ft in length and 21 tonnes in gross weight. The key advantage is efficiency: containers can be safely lifted and positioned directly alongside the trailer, eliminating the need for forklifts or external cranes.
At Container Solutions, our SideLoaders have been used for far more than just shipping containers. We’ve successfully transported and positioned:

Even when an item doesn’t have standard corner castings, our additional rigging and expertise allow us to lift and transport a wide variety of structures.
A Recent Example: 39ft Expandable Home Relocation
One standout project involved transporting a 39ft expandable home from Dandenong to Ballarat. Using our SideLoader, we managed the entire relocation efficiently, handling the weight and dimensions of the unit while ensuring it was delivered and positioned safely.

Limitations of SideLoader Transport
While SideLoaders are extremely versatile, they do come with some limitations:
- They are full-size semi-trailers, requiring suitable site access.
- They can only load/unload on the driver’s side (right-hand side).
- They can only position loads up to 800mm (80cm / ~2–3ft) away from the trailer.
- Maximum dimensions: 3.45m width and 2.9m height.
