Container Solutions Melbourne managed the full cargo logistics process for an imported oversized modular homearriving into Australia on a flat rack container, providing specialist handling from wharf collection through to preparation and assembly.
The modular structure measured approximately 10m long x 3.65m wide x 3.6m high, classifying it as out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo, requiring specialised lifting equipment, controlled handling procedures, and experienced operators from the moment it left the port.
After collection from the Melbourne wharf, the unit was transported to the Container Solutions Brooklyn yard, where the preparation and handling phase began. Unlike standard containers, flat rack cargo must be unloaded while supporting the structure to prevent stress damage. Using heavy lifting equipment and reach stackers, the restraints were removed and the building was safely separated from the flat rack base.
With the cargo positioned in the yard, the team completed a full preparation and assembly process, including unpacking the structure, craning and repositioning components, and configuring the transport setup. Axles, wheels, and tyres were installed so the modular building could later travel as a rolling oversized load.
Handling modular buildings requires a different approach to container logistics. The cargo is a completed structure, not freight, meaning lifting points, weight distribution, frame support, and structural integrity must be managed throughout every movement.
